Although much of the city centre did not survive the Blitz of World War II, some notable historic buildings remain, in particular the Grand Theatre which in 1997 celebrated its centenary. With seating for over 1000 people the Grand Theatre hosts a range of productions from drama and opera to ballet and pantomime. A recent addition to the Grand Theatre offers an additional more intimate theatre venue. Other notable theatre venues in the city include the Dylan Thomas Theatre, named after Swansea's most famous literary son and the amazing Oystermouth Castle which forms the stunning backdrop to regular outdoor Shakespeare productions.

While Welsh history, language, culture and characters are celebrated, the urban area has a buzz that is wholly contemporary and can match any other comparable European city in its nightlife and entertainment. A host of cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs cater for every taste and in the Wind Street area, the daytime cafe culture turns into a thriving nightly hotspot of social activity. Shopping opportunities are limitless and the city centre hosts the largest indoor market in Wales. The Marina and Maritime Quarter of the city is home to the LC Leisure Complex and Waterpark which contains a wealth of attractions and leisure pursuits for all the family. Adjacent to this is the National Waterfront Museum, a stunning new building with interactive exhibits and also the Museum, a neo-classical structure and the oldest museum in Wales. The Dylan Thomas Centre is also close by and offers an insight into the man and his work and the latest waterfront development, SA1 Waterfront offers a stylish mix of living, leisure and dining spaces.

The Waterside attractions of the city form just a part of Swansea Bay, an area that encompasses 25 miles of breathtaking coastline and beaches, the charming seaside villages of Mumbles, and the waterfalls of Afan and the Vale of Neath. Dozens of world class beaches, coves and bays present some excellent opportunities for exploring, walking and enjoying a range of water sports with surfing in particular being highly regarded. The Gower Peninsula was the first area of Britain to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and the honour is well deserved.

Swansea hotel establishments offer every type and style of accommodation option. Within the city there are many hotels which cater for business as well as leisure visitors and will have a range of business facilities which may include meeting, conference and event spaces, and access to workstations and other technical equipment and support. Most hotels will have internet access and the luxury hotels will likely have a full complement of facilities and amenities to ensure guests make the most from their stay. Leisure facilities may include swimming pools, gyms and a selection of dining and lounge environments.

The new SA1 Waterfront development and nearby Marina and Maritime Quarter also have a selection of excellent modern hotels well equipped to meet the demands of contemporary travellers. Some are more traditional, either in a grand style or more intimate family run establishments, where the level of personal service is designed to make each guest feel special. Whether a classic bed and breakfast guest house or a sumptuous luxury hotel, the stay is sure to be both memorable and enjoyable.

The long coastline of Swansea Bay and seaside towns and resorts are home to a great many places to stay which make the most of the sea views and coastal activities. Classic sea front hotels which specialise in family oriented services and fun sit beside more intimate exclusive hotels perfect for a romantic break by the sea. Some accommodation establishments at the coast will offer access to many of the coastal activities and water sports and may incorporate hire and storage of equipment as part of their guest services.

The open grassland, woods and villages of Gower are popular visitor destinations too and are home to some excellent Swansea hotels off the beaten track. Some are large country club style resorts and are associated with outdoor activities such as golf or horse riding while others are little more than traditional country pubs which offer comfortable lodgings, a hearty breakfast and the option of a drink in the bar or a classic pub lunch.

Most will have at least one dining facility and often bar and lounge facilities too. Local favourites include cockles, laverbread and fine Welsh lamb and there will be wider tastes and international options too, with many places also having children's menus.

There is something for everyone here. Waterfront cities are found all over the world, but few have the additional benefits of the wonderful coastline and beaches and easy access to the outdoor pursuits available in and around this city in Wales. For a family holiday, a short city break, an adventure holiday or a romantic getaway, Swansea has the environment and facilities to make it happen and the Swansea hotel options featured here are very much a part of that success.
